Synopsis

1970. Day and night, new patients arrive in the Emer­gency Depart­ment of New York’s Met­ro­pol­i­tan Hos­pi­tal. Heart patients, dia­bet­ics, can­cer patients, alco­holics, drug addicts, acci­dent vic­tims, these patients pass through the hands of doc­tors, nurs­es and psy­chi­a­trists. Togeth­er, they have to deal with reg­u­la­tions, the avail­abil­i­ty of resources and orga­ni­za­tion­al con­straints, which often deter­mine the nature of care.
