Sebastian Stan

Sebas­t­ian Stan stud­ied dra­ma at Rut­gers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Jer­sey. He made his screen debut in the series Law & Order and nabbed his first notable role in the series Gos­sip Girl in 2007. In 2011, he was cast to play James “Bucky” Barnes, the best friend of Steve Rogers, aka Cap­tain Amer­i­ca, in Cap­tain Amer­i­ca: The First Avenger. He reprised this role sev­er­al times, in Cap­tain Amer­i­ca: The Win­ter Sol­dier (2012) and Cap­tain Amer­i­ca: Civ­il War (2016), and in such oth­er Mar­vel Cin­e­mat­ic Uni­verse titles as Ant-Man (2015), Black Pan­ther (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), as well as in the spin­off series The Fal­con and the Win­ter Sol­dier (2021). In par­al­lel, the actor also por­trayed the Mad Hat­ter in a recur­ring role in the series Once Upon a Time, and filmed Rid­ley Scott’s The Mar­t­ian in 2012 with Matt Damon.

Sebas­t­ian Stan went on to per­form in many inde­pen­dent films. He notably appeared in Bryan Buckley’s The Bronze (2015) and shared the screen with Mar­got Rob­bie in Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya (2017). In 2018, he shot Karyn Kusama’s Destroy­er with Nicole Kid­man, then joined Shai­lene Wood­ley for Drake Dore­mus’ dra­ma End­ings, Begin­nings (2019). 

More recent­ly, the actor played rock star Tom­my Lee in the minis­eries Pam and Tom­my, released in 2022 on Dis­ney+. His laud­ed per­for­mance earned him Emmy, Gold­en Globe and Crit­ics Choice nom­i­na­tions for Best Actor in a Lim­it­ed Series. He also received a Crit­ics Choice nom­i­na­tion for his per­for­mance star­ring oppo­site Daisy Edgar Jones in the Search­light cult hit, Fresh, direct­ed by Mimi Cave. 

This year, Sebas­t­ian Stan plays the lead role in Aaron Schimberg’s inde­pen­dent film A Dif­fer­ent Man, for which he won the Best Actor Sil­ver Bear at last February’s Berlin Film Fes­ti­val, and por­trays Don­ald Trump in Ali Abbasi’s The Appren­tice, pre­sent­ed in com­pe­ti­tion at the most recent Cannes Film Fes­ti­val. He will once again don the Win­ter Sol­dier cos­tume for the upcom­ing Mar­vel pro­duc­tion Thun­der­bolt, antic­i­pat­ed for a Spring 2025 release.
