Born in Cana­da, he grad­u­at­ed from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and co-found­ed Bor­der­line Films in 2003. He wrote and direct­ed Martha Mar­cy May Mar­lene, which screened as part of Un Cer­tain Regard at the 2011 Cannes Film Fes­ti­val. The film pre­miered at Sun­dance where he won the Best Direc­tor Award. Among oth­er films, he pro­duced Anto­nio Cam­pos’ After­school (2008), Alis­tair Banks Griffin’s Two Gates of Sleep, (2010), and Josh Mond’s James White (2015), all of them pre­sent­ed in com­pe­ti­tion at Deauville. In 2013, he direct­ed all the episodes of British series South­cliffe. The Nest is his sec­ond fea­ture film.
