About

Born in 1974 in Swe­den, he stud­ied at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Gothen­burg. An avid ski­er, he direct­ed three ski films, already allud­ing to his taste for long sequence shots. His fea­ture debut The Gui­tar Mon­goloid won the FIPRESCI Award at the 2005 Moscow Film Fes­ti­val. All his sub­se­quent fea­ture films pre­miered at the Cannes Film Fes­ti­val, start­ing with his sec­ond film Invol­un­tary, which was pre­sent­ed in Un Cer­tain Regard in 2008. Force majeure won the Un Cer­tain Regard Jury Prize in 2014. He won the Palme d’Or in 2017 with The Square, and a sec­ond one this year with Tri­an­gle of Sad­ness.
