About

Jean Paul Civeyrac stud­ied phi­los­o­phy at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Lyon before enrolling in la Fémis in Paris, where he direct­ed his short film Life Accord­ing to Luc, select­ed in com­pe­ti­tion at the 1991 Cannes Film Fes­ti­val. Six years lat­er, he shot his first fea­ture film, Nei­ther Eve Nor Adam, fol­lowed by the films Les Soli­taires (2000), Fan­tômes (2002), Jury Prize win­ner at the Belfort Film Fes­ti­val, Man’s Gen­tle Love (2002) and All the Fine Promis­es, which won the 2003 Jean Vigo Prize. He went on to direct Through the For­est, pre­sent­ed at the 2005 Toron­to Film Fes­ti­val, Young Girls in Black, select­ed for Cannes Direc­tors’ Fort­night in 2010, My Friend Vic­to­ria (2014) and A Paris Edu­ca­tion, pre­sent­ed at the 2018 Berli­nale in the Panora­ma sec­tion. Jean Paul Civeyrac is also an author and teach­es at la Fémis, Paris VIII Uni­ver­si­ty and the Cours Flo­rent. “Écrit entre les jours,” a col­lec­tion of writ­ings on film and music, was pub­lished in 2014 by De l’Incidence Édi­teur, and “Rose pourquoi,” an essay on cin­e­ma, by POL in 2017. His fea­ture film Une femme de notre temps, star­ring Sophie Marceau, was select­ed for the last Locarno Film Fes­ti­val and will be released in the­aters at the end of the year.
