Born in Texas and raised in Virginia, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and an M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University. He started out by making short films, such as Ladybug (2012) and Love in Four Parts (2013). He also directed, with Miguel ‘M.i.G.’ Martinez, Farewell Ferris Wheel (2016), a documentary exploring how the US Carnival industry employs Mexican migrant workers, that was nominated for an Outstanding Business and Economic News & Documentary Emmy Award. His short film Stay Awake won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Slamdance Film Festival. Stay Awake, an adaptation of his short, is his feature debut.
