About

Guil­laume Canet attend­ed the Cours Flo­rent and appeared in sev­er­al TV movies, then Philippe Haïm’s fea­ture film Bar­racu­da, along­side Jean Rochefort, a role for which he won the Saint-Jean-de-Luz Film Fes­ti­val Act­ing Award. Hot off this first suc­cess, he filmed a series of movies: Pierre Jolivet’s In All Inno­cence (1998), which earned him a César nom­i­na­tion for Best Male New­com­er, Rémi Waterhouse’s I Fol­low in My Father’s Foot­steps (1999), Dan­ny Boyle’s The Beach (2000) along­side Leonar­do DiCaprio, Jer­ry Schatzberg’s The Day the Ponies Come Back (2000) and Andrzej Zulawski’s Fideli­ty, for which he won the Jean-Gabin Award. Now firm­ly estab­lished, he went on to appear in numer­ous films includ­ing Yann Samuel’s Love Me If You Dare (2003), Tris­tan Aurou­et and Gilles Lellouche’s Nar­co (2004), Chris­t­ian Carion’s Mer­ry Christ­mas (2005), Claude Berri’s Hunt­ing and Gath­er­ing (2007), Jacques Maillot’s Rivals (2008), Chris­t­ian Carion’s Farewell (2009), Chris­t­ian Duguay’s Jap­peloup (2013), André Téchiné’s In the Name of My Daugh­ter (2014), Cédric Anger’s Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart (2014), Gilles Lellouche’s Sink or Swim (2018) and Édouard Bergeon’s In the Name of the Land (2019). Par­al­lel to his act­ing career, Guil­laume Canet tried his hand at direct­ing with sev­er­al shorts before grad­u­at­ing to fea­tures in 2002 with My Idol, which he wrote and pro­duced and in which he also starred. In 2017, he won the Best Direc­tor César and the Jacques-Der­ay Award for his sec­ond direc­to­r­i­al out­ing, the thriller Tell No One, in which he act­ed oppo­site François Cluzet. His third film as a pro­duc­er, screen­writer and direc­tor, the ensem­ble film Lit­tle White Lies, was a box office smash in 2010. Three years lat­er, he direct­ed his first Amer­i­can film, Blood Ties, which played at the Cannes Film Fes­ti­val. He then direct­ed Rock’n Roll (2017), act­ing along­side his part­ner Mar­i­on Cotil­lard, Lit­tle White Lies 2 (2019), Lui (2021), and then Aster­ix & Obelix: The Mid­dle King­dom, which was a com­mer­cial hit. Guil­laume Canet will soon appear on screen in Just Philippot’s cli­mate thriller Acid.
