About

Born in New Zealand, he grew up in Aus­tralia where he stud­ied cin­e­ma at Melbourne’s Swin­burne Film School. In 2000, he direct­ed his fea­ture debut Chop­per, hailed by the crit­ics and in which he revealed to the world the actor Eric Bana. His sec­ond film, west­ern The Assas­si­na­tion of Jesse James by the Cow­ard Robert Ford, star­ring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, pre­miered at Venice and Deauville in 2007. He reunit­ed with Brad Pitt five years lat­er with crime film Killing Them Soft­ly, select­ed in com­pe­ti­tion at the Cannes Film Festival.
