About

A London native, Daisy Ridley studied acting from a young age at the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. She studied civilization at the University of London before devoting herself to acting full-time. After appearing in several short films and TV series, she became the new face of the “Star Wars” franchise and gained global recognition for playing Rey, the main character of the new trilogy launched in 2015 with J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. She reprised the role in two subsequent volumes, Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi (2017) and J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Daisy Ridley has also acted in many other feature films including Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and Claire McCarthy’s Ophelia (2018), in which she played the title role alongside Naomi Watts. In 2018, she lent her voice to one of the characters in Peter Rabbit, a hybrid animation/live-action adaptation of the adventures by English author Beatrix Potter. The actress recently appeared in two films: The Marsh King’s Daughter, directed by Neil Burger and released on Prime Video, and Rachel Lambert’s Sometimes I Think About Dying, presented at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and released in French cinemas this year. She also played the lead role in Young Woman and the Sea, a narrative feature film inspired by the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926, released in July on Disney+.

On the heels of Sam Yates’ British film Magpie, based on a story developed by Daisy Ridley and presented at the South by Southwest Film Festival last March, the actress will next appear in Zak Hilditch’s survival film We Bury the Dead, Martin Campbell’s new actioner Cleaner, and Jane Anderson’s historical drama Women in the Castle, featuring Kirsten Scott Thomas and Nina Hoss. The actress will revisit her role as Rey for a new chapter in the “Star Wars” universe saga set to be released in 2026.
