About

After study­ing lit­er­a­ture, Léa Mysius grad­u­at­ed from the screen­writ­ing depart­ment at La Fémis in 2014. She direct­ed three short films which were select­ed and award­ed by numer­ous film fes­ti­vals: Exquis­ite Corpse, Thun­der­birds, select­ed by Ciné­fon­da­tion, and The Yel­low Island, co-direct­ed with Paul Guil­haume. In 2017, she direct­ed her first fea­ture film, Ava, a teenage dra­ma led by the young actress Noée Abi­ta along­side Lau­re Calamy. The film was select­ed for that year’s Cannes Crit­ics’ Week and won the SACD Prize. Léa Mysius went on to pur­sue her screen­writ­ing career and co-wrote with sev­er­al big names in French cin­e­ma, such as Arnaud Desplechin (Ismael’s Ghosts, Oh Mer­cy!), André Téch­iné (Farewell to the Night), Jacques Audi­ard (Paris, 13th Dis­trict) and Claire Denis (Stars at Noon, win­ner of the 2022 Cannes Film Fes­ti­val Grand Prize). In 2022, she returned to the director’s chair, direct­ing Adèle Exar­chopou­los in The Five Dev­ils, a fol­low-up fea­ture min­gling inti­mate dra­ma and fan­ta­sy, select­ed by Direc­tors’ Fortnight.
